Rain is spread through the year — pack an umbrella whatever the season. Air quality is a genuine asset: no heavy industry, lots of forest.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a doctor's referral to visit? No. Sanatoriums have their own physicians who examine you on arrival and prescribe your programme. Hotels require nothing at all.

Can I just drink the water without a sanatorium stay? Yes — no stay or referral needed. The main pump room serves Naftusia, Maria and Sofia to everyone during its opening blocks. The water is paid nowadays — 36 UAH per litre (2025), so a prescribed dose costs a few hryvnias — via a rechargeable card from the buvet cash desk. Doctors advise following a proper schedule; a consultation is cheap and worth it.

Is Truskavets safe to visit during wartime? Truskavets lies in the far west of Ukraine, one of the calmer regions, and hotels and sanatoriums operate normally with shelters designated. Air alerts do occur; check your government's travel advice and follow local guidance. See our practical tips article.

What language do people speak? Ukrainian. Polish is often understood, English works in the bigger hotels; a translation app covers the rest.

How long should I stay? The classic medical course is 21–24 days, an effective "maintenance" course 10–14, a taster weekend 2–3. The water works fast, but not that fast.

Is it expensive? By Western European spa standards, no. A budget sanatorium with treatments can cost less per day than a city-break coffee habit; five-star spa resorts price like mid-range EU hotels.
